GIS & Remote Sensing: Foundations to Field Projects

Coordinate systems, vector and raster analysis, satellite sensors, spectral indices and map production with open-source tools.

Course modules

  1. 01Spatial data, projections and data sources
  2. 02Vector analysis, digitising and geoprocessing
  3. 03Raster analysis, DEMs and terrain derivatives
  4. 04Optical remote sensing: Landsat & Sentinel-2
  5. 05Spectral indices (NDVI, NDWI…) and classification
  6. 06Cartography and publication-quality maps

Learning outcomes

  • Independently acquire, process and analyse satellite data
  • Produce land-use / land-cover maps with accuracy assessment
  • Design clear maps for reports and papers

Project-based training

Every participant completes a capstone: Cartography and publication-quality maps. Labs use real environmental, agricultural or engineering datasets.

Tools

  • QGIS
  • Sentinel-2
  • Landsat
  • SRTM DEM
